For the past 20 years, the College of Science has been preparing the next generation of scientists to take on complex global challenges, inspiring those in the campus community and beyond to Live a Life of Discovery.

In celebration of the College’s growth and achievements, and with gratitude for our generous community partners and dedicated faculty and staff members, we invite you to take part in our special 20-Year Anniversary Gala.

Date: Friday, September 20, 2024
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Location: Whitney Peak Hotel Ballrooms, 255 N Virginia St, Reno, NV 89501
Attire: Attendees are encouraged to dress in semiformal attire.
Parking: Complimentary parking is available in the Whitney Peak Parking Garage (50 E. Plaza) and valet parking will be offered at a discounted rate of $15. Parking vouchers will be available at the Gala registration desk.

  • General admission: $60 per person
  • College of Science faculty/staff/emeritus faculty: $45 per person
  • Tables (seats 8): $480 per table

Itinerary for the 20-Year Anniversary Gala

Cocktail hour

Mix and mingle with College of Science faculty, staff, alumni, student groups and museum representatives, as well as community partners, University leadership and supporters of science. Don’t forget to try our signature drink at the bar! Two drink tickets will be provided per guest.

Introduction

Dean Louisa Hope-Weeks will kick off the celebration with a welcome speech.

Dinner

A delicious plated dinner, complete with a starter salad, entrée, side dish and dessert, will be provided to all those who attend. **Please indicate if you have any dietary restrictions upon registration.**

Video premiere

Watch influential figures and representatives from the University discuss the College’s growth and development over the past 20 years, as well as look ahead to what the future holds. Learn what it means to Live a Life of Discovery!

Presentation of awards

The 2023 Mackay School Alumnus of the Year, Tim Crowley ‘92 (geography) will emcee for the evening, presenting awards to longstanding supporters and the 2024 Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni of the Year awardees.

Discovery magazine unveiling

In honor of the College’s 20-year anniversary and the University’s sesquicentennial celebration, this edition of Discovery magazine is dedicated to reflecting on the past, recognizing present achievements and looking toward a bright future of educating and inspiring the next generation of scientists. There will be a table with copies available, and attendees can check with the College of Science marketing and communications team to see if they will be receiving the magazine in the mail.
